The Chamber of Commerce was build by Marcus A.O. Packard.
It was built in 1879. The city building was a drug store and a
bank. Once it was build it originally had an iron called facade
and three storefronts. In 1916, the northern and middle bays
were covered with a Neoclassical facade. The limestone
pillars were put to suggest strength and security for banks
customers. For the drugs it was for supporting goods. Now,
the southern storefront (Chamber of Commerce) is the only
fully cast iron facade downtown. Mr. Packard was the founder
of the first national bank.
