The Pilot News was once Montgomery Ward. It was the first Montgomery Ward retail building ever you could. You could actually go into the store and buy things rather then having it mailed to you. Montgomery Ward started in that building in October 24, 1929 and it had survived the Great Depression. The design of the building became their standard for their chain stores throughout the country. The Spirit of Progress became their symbol a statue of theSpirit of Progress was presented on the Montgomery Ward in Chicago. In the mid 70s Treats for Her started operating out of that building. You can still go that building The address is 214 N. Michigan Street, but don’t expect to find the Montgomery Ward. In it’s place is the current Pilot News. There they now run the newspaper in Plymouth Indiana. They moved into the Pilot News building around 2000.
