In downtown Plymouth, there’s a very significant building: Marshall
County Museum Crossroads Center. The museum wasn’t always there
though. It used to be a men’s clothing store. The Lauer’s Clothing Store
Company bought it in 1911 and rebuilt it to function like a regular
clothing store. The outside was an Italianate style. It had to be rebuilt
because it burnt down in 1872 like most buildings did. It was made
mainly of wood. Apparently, candles and wood doesn’t mix very
well. Thankfully, the Marshall County Museum wasn’t made out of
wood and they kept the Italianate style. They have been there since
1992 and includes numerous attractions and exhibits like the
different highways, a Saturday morning train, and a model of
the Trail of Death.
